Prominent Leaders Offer Solutions to Economic Hardships During Sallah Celebration
As Muslims across Nigeria marked Eid-el-Kabir on Sunday, prominent leaders including President Bola Tinubu, former President Muhammadu Buhari, the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, and the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Archbishop Daniel Okoh, used the occasion to address the pressing economic challenges facing the nation.
President Bola Tinubu, celebrating in Lagos, called upon Nigerians to embrace sacrificial acts and extend charity to alleviate the hardships brought about by high food inflation.
In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, Tinubu stressed the importance of citizenship responsibilities, urging citizens to love their country and show care for one another.
The Chief Imam of Lagos State, Sheikh Suleiman Abou-Nolla, echoed similar sentiments during his sermon, emphasizing the need for increased love, sacrifice, and support for the less privileged.
He invoked the legacy of past Nigerian leaders who dedicated their lives to nation-building, urging citizens to follow in their footsteps to ensure continued national growth and development.
Former President Muhammadu Buhari, speaking from Daura, called for a renewed focus on agriculture and patronage of locally made products as a means to enhance food security and economic stability.
In a statement by his media adviser, Garba Shehu, Buhari expressed satisfaction with the growing engagement of Nigerians in agriculture, stressing the need to sustain these efforts amidst rising prices.
Buhari also highlighted the importance of educating the youth about the nation’s history and the contributions of its founding fathers, urging them to draw inspiration from these legacies to build a prosperous future for Nigeria.
He raised concerns about unchecked population growth and advocated for greater investments in education and healthcare to address future challenges effectively.
During his address, Buhari commended the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for its role in fostering national unity and urged successive administrations to strengthen the scheme further.
Meanwhile, the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, and CAN President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, both emphasized the need for unity, peace, and concerted efforts towards national development in their respective messages.
