Presidential Adviser Bayo Onanuga Responds to Peter Obi’s Lawsuit Threat
The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Communications and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has responded defiantly to the threat of a lawsuit by Peter Obi, the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party.
Obi’s legal action follows allegations made by Onanuga that Obi and his supporters were behind planned nationwide protests against the Tinubu administration, citing the country’s current economic hardships.
Peter Obi, through a letter signed by his lawyer, Alex Ejesieme, demanded a retraction of the statement and an unreserved apology from Onanuga within 72 hours. The letter also demanded N5 billion in damages for the alleged defamatory statement.
In a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday, Onanuga expressed his readiness to face legal proceedings.
“I am still waiting for the letter from Peter Obi’s lawyer threatening a N5 billion suit and demanding an apology to Peter Obi over the planned ‘revolution’. Let me just tell Obi and his lawyer: I am not afraid of any legal action. We shall meet in court,” Onanuga wrote.
The dispute arises from recent comments made by Onanuga, accusing Obi and his supporters of orchestrating protests against the government, which he termed a ‘revolution’. Obi’s legal team contends that these accusations are baseless and damaging to his reputation.
