Police Say Viral Video of Alleged Beating of Women Protesters in Kwara Was Digitally Manipulated

January 28, 2026

The Kwara State Police Command has dismissed as false a viral video circulating on social media that allegedly shows women protesters being beaten at the Government House in Ilorin on December 27, 2025.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said forensic investigations revealed that the video was digitally manipulated and did not accurately represent events at the Kwara Government House.
According to the police, forensic analysis established that the footage was a composite created by splicing together unrelated scenes. The statement explained that clips of violent altercations from separate incidents were deliberately merged with footage from a peaceful protest to falsely suggest that the violence occurred at the Government House
