Police Deploy Additional Personnel to Kano Palaces Amid Emirship Tussle
In response to heightened tensions surrounding the dispute over the emirship in Kano State, the police have bolstered security measures by deploying armed personnel to two palaces housing contending emirs in the metropolitan Local Government Areas of Kano.
Confirming the deployment, the outgoing Commissioner of Police, AIG Usaini Gumel, disclosed in an interview with newsmen on Monday that the move was aimed at preempting any potential security threats.
“Equipped and armed personnel have been deployed to handle any unforeseen circumstances around the identified areas,” AIG Gumel stated, emphasizing the need to maintain peace and security pending the resolution of the emirship tussle.
According to AIG Gumel, the strategic deployment is part of a broader plan to ensure security and peaceful coexistence in the state during this sensitive period.
“Armed personnel have been stationed at the Kofar Kudu Palace, residence of Emir Malam Mohammadu Sunusi, and the Nasarawa Mimi Palace, residence of Emir Aminu Bayero,” he added.
The police commissioner urged residents to support the security agencies by providing timely and relevant information that could help in maintaining peace, progress, and political stability in the state.
He reassured the public of the police command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of all residents and enabling them to carry out their daily activities without fear of intimidation or violence.
