Plateau Governor Stresses Adherence to Building Codes to Prevent Collapses

Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has emphasized the critical importance of adhering to building codes to prevent the unnecessary collapse of structures, which often results in loss of lives and injuries.
He made this statement while receiving the Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mrs. Zubaida Umar, at the Government House in Jos on Sunday.
During her visit to Jos, Plateau State, the Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mrs. Zubaida Umar, conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the collapsed school building last Friday. She praised the joint search and rescue efforts undertaken by NEMA, SEMA, and other government agencies at the site.
Mrs. Umar also extended her condolences to the Government and people of the state, particularly to the families who lost their children and those who were injured in the tragic incident.
The visit by the NEMA boss was less than 72 hours after the incident. She decried the loss of lives and said the tragedy was avoidable.
She said: “I decided to come myself because it is such a huge and avoidable loss. It is something that could have been totally avoided.”
She also visited some of the injured students that are receiving treatment at Bingham University Teaching Hospital before proceeding to Government House, where she conveyed the message of sympathy to the State Government.
