Peter Obi Decries Rising Attacks on Security Personnel

September 23, 2025

The Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, has raised an alarm over the increasing attacks and killings of security operatives across Nigeria.

Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, expressed concern that soldiers, police officers, members of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and local vigilante groups continue to face deadly assaults while serving the nation. He stressed that the sacrifices of these operatives should not go unappreciated and that leaders must take urgent steps to better equip and motivate them.

He also called for improved welfare measures, including adequate compensation and sustained support for the families of fallen officers, insisting that Nigeria cannot continue to lose its defenders without securing the well-being of those left behind.

Obi prayed for the repose of the souls of the slain security personnel and assured their families of solidarity, urging that their service and patriotism must never be forgotten.
