Peter Obi Declares Makinde Qualified to Become President
The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has declared that his Allied Peoples Movement (APM) counterpart, Seyi Makinde, is qualified to become President of Nigeria. Obi spoke on Monday at the inauguration of Makinde’s presidential campaign office in Abuja, where he advocated greater unity among political actors ahead of the 2027 general election. He said his presence at the event was not out of desperation, but to support the right of Nigerians to choose their preferred candidate through a free, fair and credible election.
Obi also pledged to work with whoever wins the 2027 presidential election through a genuine electoral process, saying politicians must put aside their differences and focus on improving the lives of Nigerians. He said the country could no longer continue on its current path as citizens struggle with hunger and poverty. According to him, political competition should focus on finding solutions to Nigeria’s problems and creating a society where a child from an ordinary background can rise to prominence without relying on political connections.
