PDP Governors Reject Wike-Backed Faction’s Moves to Reschedule Convention, Dissolve Committees
The crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deepened as party governors resisted efforts by a caretaker committee backed by Nyesom Wike to reschedule the national convention and dissolve key zonal committees, insisting the faction lacks constitutional authority as the Wike-aligned committee, supported by the FCT Minister, announced a shift of the convention to March 29 and 30 dissolving the Southwest, North-West, and Plateau zonal committees, but governors including Seyi Makinde and Bala Mohammed rejected the actions, reaffirming loyalty to the Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC) elected at the Ibadan convention in November 2025.
Furthermore, the Party staff also backed the Turaki-led NWC, maintaining that the courts lack jurisdiction over the party’s internal affairs. Wike’s allies defended their faction’s moves as part of efforts to steer the party to a “winning path,” while Governor Makinde reiterated that disruptive elements in the party have been removed and expressed confidence that the judiciary will uphold the party’s constitution in resolving ongoing legal disputes.
