The Oyo State Government has announced that Monday, July 8, 2024, will be observed as a work-free day in honor of the Islamic New Year, Hijrah 1446AH.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, the government recognized the significance of Hijrah to the Muslim community as the day commemorates Prophet Muhammad’s migration from Mecca to Medina in 622 AD.
“Monday, July 8, 2024, has been declared a work-free day to mark the Hijrah, which signifies Prophet Muhammad’s migration from Mecca to Medina in 622 AD,” Oyelade said.
Oyelade underscored that declaring Monday a work-free day reflects the government’s respect and support for the Muslim residents of Oyo State as he urged all residents to use the occasion for prayers, seeking peace, unity, and prosperity in both Oyo State and Nigeria.
“The Hijrah is a time for reflection, prayer, and community spirit. Let us come together on this day to pray for peace, unity, and prosperity in our state and our nation,” he added.
