Oyo Residents Stage Protest Over 5-Year Power Disconnection by IBEDC
The residents from Olodo to Iyana Offa in Oyo State protested on Monday against repeated disconnections by the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC). The protest, which saw a large turnout, centered around the IBEDC office along the Iwo-Olodo Road, disrupting vehicular movement.
According to newsmen, the protesters carried banners and placards expressing frustration over the prolonged disconnection of communities such as Adewumi, Trailer Park, Adeleye and 7 other places among others, spanning over five years without any sign of reconnection.
In a statement made available, the company has held numerous meetings with community leaders to keep them informed of the situation and assure them that every effort is being made to restore full power supply.
The statement read: “While the lack of right of way to re-erect broken poles caused the initial interruption in power supply, IBEDC is actively seeking creative solutions to restore power to the affected communities.”
“Currently, 65% of customers on the feeder are receiving power, while efforts are being made to back feed some of the remaining Distribution Substations (DSS) from an alternative feeder.”
Meanwhile, IBEDC stated their commitment to finding alternative solutions and enhancing service delivery despite initial challenges, emphasizing ongoing efforts to engage community leaders and restore full power supply
Furthermore, IBEDC affirmed their dedication to transparency, pledging continued updates on project progress and collaboration with community stakeholders for optimal outcomes.
