Over 50 Survivors of Kwara Attack Hospitalised
More than 50 survivors of the recent terrorist attack on Woro and neighbouring Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State are receiving treatment in hospitals for injuries sustained during the assault. Victims suffered varying degrees of injuries, including gunshot wounds.
Senator representing Kwara North, Sadiq Umar, visited some of the injured, describing the incident as “heartbreaking.” He prayed for their recovery and assured them of his continued support throughout treatment.
Senator Umar commended President Bola Tinubu for deploying security personnel under Operation Savannah Shield to restore peace and apprehend the attackers. He also praised Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for the swift response, including the State Emergency Management Agency’s provision of relief materials.
The Nigerian Police Force condemned the attack, confirming that a manhunt is underway. The Inspector-General of Police has ordered the immediate deployment of tactical, operational, and intelligence units to the area.
The Tuesday attack left at least 75 people dead, according to the Kwara State Police Command. Homes, shops, and a traditional ruler’s residence were set ablaze, forcing residents to flee. Governor AbdulRazaq described the incident as a “pure massacre,” while President Tinubu reinforced security with an army battalion. Political groups, including the Northern States Governors’ Forum, have condemned the killings as barbaric.
Senator Umar called for unity and vigilance among residents, reaffirming his commitment to the well-being of his constituents and praying for lasting peace in the region.
