NOA Urges Public to Follow NiMET Weather Predictions for 2026
The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has urged Nigerians to follow weather forecasts released by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET) to aid planning in agriculture, disaster management, and other sectors.
During a briefing with community orientation and mobilisation officers in Uyo, NOA highlighted the importance of NiMET’s 2026 Seasonal Climate Prediction (SCP), which provides detailed information on expected rainfall patterns, the onset and cessation of the rainy season, temperature variations, and potential dry spells.
The agency stressed that understanding the weather outlook for 2026 will help farmers plan planting schedules, communities prepare for floods or dry spells, and governments allocate resources efficiently. It also emphasized the growing volatility of weather patterns due to climate change, urging citizens to adhere to NiMET advisories to mitigate risks from floods, erosion, heatwaves, and poor agricultural yields while confirming that it will collaborate with NiMET to disseminate climate predictions in simplified formats and local languages across the country to ensure broad access to the information.
