NOA Urges Media to Promote National Values, Inspire Hope
The Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, has urged Nigerian media organizations to tell stories that reflect the nation’s history, inspire hope, and uphold democratic values.
Speaking in Abuja during the 2025 Press Week organized by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in collaboration with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Issa-Onilu said the media plays a vital role in promoting peace, unity, and national cohesion through responsible journalism.
He described the media as “not just a recorder of events but a preserver of the nation’s moral fabric,” calling on journalists to focus on narratives that build trust and strengthen Nigeria’s collective identity.
In his remarks, NAN Managing Director, Mallam Ali M. Ali, said the agency is repositioning itself to compete with international news organizations such as Reuters and the Associated Press, reaffirming NAN’s commitment to professionalism, accuracy, and projecting Nigeria’s image positively.
The event drew journalists, media executives, and communication experts who emphasized the need for ethical reporting as a cornerstone for national development.
