NOA to Take Investor Education Campaign to Grassroots Communities

February 23, 2026

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) have inaugurated a Joint Committee to strengthen investor education and combat fraudulent investment schemes across Nigeria.

The committee was formally inaugurated on February 19, 2026, at the NOA headquarters in Abuja. The event was presided over by NOA’s Director of Media and Communication, Bala Musa, who represented the Director-General. Officials from both agencies attended the meeting to lay the groundwork for a coordinated strategy that will harness their combined expertise, resources, and nationwide outreach.

Speaking at the inauguration, Musa said the collaboration reflects a shared commitment to deepen public trust and promote informed participation in Nigeria’s capital market explaining that while the SEC is responsible for regulating and developing the capital market as well as protecting investors, NOA’s presence across states, local governments and communities positions it to deliver critical investor education messages directly to Nigerians at the grassroots level stressing that investor education should not be limited to urban centres, noting that Nigerians across all demographics must have access to accurate information to make informed financial decisions.

During a presentation at the meeting, SEC disclosed that Nigerians lost about ₦1.5 trillion in the past year to unregulated and fraudulent investment schemes. The commission described the losses as alarming and said preventing further incidents through intensified public sensitisation has become a top priority emphasising the need to leverage NOA’s statutory mandate for nationwide public enlightenment to ensure consistent messaging against Ponzi schemes and other illegal investment platforms which will resolve to deploying  expert knowledge in financial regulation, communication and grassroots mobilisation, organise a minimum three-day intensive training programme for designated personnel, and draft a Memorandum of Understanding to formalise the partnership.
