NOA Reaffirms Role as Federal Government’s Communication Bridge

February 18, 2026

The National Orientation Agency has reaffirmed its statutory role as the federal government’s principal communication bridge between the government and citizens, highlighting its extensive grassroots presence across the country.

The Director-General of the agency, Lanre Issa-Onilu, made this known during an interview with the media team of the Federal Road Safety Corps at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja. He said the agency’s mandate extends beyond conventional media platforms, such as radio, television, and social media, noting that its officers regularly engage with citizens directly in motor parks, markets, traditional institutions, and community forums nationwide.

Issa-Onilu explained that the agency’s grassroots sensitisation campaigns, often conducted in collaboration with the FRSC at the state level, are central to promoting public awareness and responsible civic behaviour. He stressed that with over 800 offices nationwide, the agency occupies a unique position in disseminating government policies and programmes, adding that partnerships with other agencies for public enlightenment are part of its core legal responsibilities rather than auxiliary support.

The NOA boss also addressed concerns over delays between public feedback and government response, attributing such challenges to fiscal constraints. He noted that Nigeria’s large population requires substantial financial resources and said the government must balance competing demands, including infrastructure development, workers’ wages, debt servicing, and security.

He further disclosed that the agency has adopted modern communication strategies to align with evolving media consumption trends, including digital platforms, influencers, publications, and an Artificial Intelligence-powered communication system. Issa-Onilu urged motorists to obey traffic regulations and prioritise safety, emphasising that respect for road safety rules is critical to reducing accidents and saving lives.
