NOA, LIFANIMA Launch ₦22.5m Animation Award to Promote Nigerian Values

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has partnered with the Lagos International Festival of Animation (LIFANIMA) to launch the NOA Animation Award 2026, a new initiative aimed at promoting Nigerian creativity, strengthening the country’s animation industry, and fostering national values through cultural reorientation.
The announcement was made by the Director General of NOA, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, during the LIFANIMA 2025 Award Night held at the Alliance Française / Mike Adenuga Centre in Ikoyi, Lagos, as the award is part of the agency’s broader effort to nationalise cartoon content and establish a strong Nigerian identity through the Nigerian Values Charter which seeks to use animation as a tool to connect creativity with national development by promoting the seven national promises and seven citizen codes that define Nigeria’s collective responsibility.
The competition is open exclusively to Nigerian animators, who are invited to submit short films exploring the theme Who is a Real Nigerian? using 2D, 3D, or Stop Motion animation styles, with a total prize value of ₦22.5 million, the award offers ₦10 million for the winner, ₦7.5 million for second place, and ₦5 million for third place. The top three winning entries will also enjoy three months of nationwide broadcast exposure across NOA partner networks and major television stations after the LIFANIMA 2026 Awards Night. Entries are to be submitted through FilmFreeway in line with the festival’s 2026 schedule. The NOA Director General further stated that the award underscores the synergy between governance and creativity, empowering local animators to tell culturally relevant stories that promote shared national ideals.
