NOA Engages Abuja Pupils on Patriotism and National Values

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has intensified its campaign to promote patriotism and civic values among Nigerian children as its Director-General, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, hosted pupils from two Abuja schools at the Agency’s headquarters.
The interactive session featured discussions on national values, respect for national symbols, and responsible citizenship. Issa-Onilu engaged the pupils in conversations linking their favorite cartoons and superheroes to Nigerian-made animations, introducing Captain Excellence, a local character designed to promote integrity and good behavior.
He explained the Agency’s role in fostering responsible citizenship and encouraged the children to take pride in being Nigerians by respecting the national flag, obeying rules, and contributing positively to their communities. The NOA boss also emphasized that leadership begins in childhood, noting that kindness, obedience, and helpfulness are the building blocks of good leadership.
Using the National Anthem as a teaching tool, Issa-Onilu highlighted its themes of unity, love, and national service. He also spoke on the symbolism of the Naira, urging the children to handle the currency with care and respect as a mark of honor to the nation.
He further informed the pupils about NOA’s presence across Nigeria’s 774 local governments, where staff work daily to promote national values and civic education through schools, markets, communities, and the media.
The Director-General introduced the pupils to the Seven Citizen Codes, stressing that living by these principles would help them grow into exemplary professionals and ambassadors of the country. He concluded the session with prayers for the children’s success and reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to nurturing a generation of patriotic Nigerians.
The team was led by Mrs. Cynthia Ngozi Opene, Producer and Director of Kiddies World on NTA Channel 5, who praised the Agency for its warm reception and educational engagement. She commended NOA’s ongoing efforts to promote positive national values and pledged to amplify the message of patriotism through her platform.
Mrs. Opene also lauded the Agency’s initiative of establishing Citizen Brigades in schools to encourage discipline and civic responsibility from an early age. The visiting schools were CK Academy, Bmuko Dutse, and Goldsworth Resource Development Academy, Jikwoyi Road, Dagbana.
