NOA DG Calls for Citizens’ Unity Against Insecurity
The Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Lanre Issa-Onilu, has called on Nigerians to unite in the fight against insecurity, urging them to renew their patriotism, take collective responsibility, and engage actively in civic affairs to promote national peace and development.
In his New Year message to citizens, Issa-Onilu said that while government efforts to secure the country are being intensified, lasting success can only be achieved through the cooperation and involvement of all Nigerians.
He described collective action as the most effective means of combating threats to national peace, noting that insecurity often flourishes in societies where citizens feel disconnected from national affairs.
The NOA Director-General urged Nigerians to actively participate in nation-building and stand united against forces seeking to divide the country along ethnic, religious, or regional lines.
According to him, restoring confidence in the Nigerian project requires more than government intervention, but a broad revival of national values and shared responsibility at all levels of society.
Issa-Onilu also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s firm stance on security, highlighting recent collaboration with the United States that resulted in a decisive airstrike on terrorist enclaves.
He described the operation as evidence of strong leadership and the President’s commitment to protecting lives and property, adding that such international partnerships enhance Nigeria’s security capacity and global confidence in its security framework.
The NOA boss further called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society organisations, and youth groups to intensify efforts in promoting peaceful coexistence, tolerance, and respect for the rule of law.
He concluded by wishing Nigerians a year of peace, unity, and the fulfillment of both personal and national aspirations, urging citizens to remain hopeful and committed to building a better Nigeria.
