NOA and NIMC Launch Joint Committee for Ward-Level NIN Enrolment
The National Orientation Agency (NOA) and the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) have inaugurated a joint committee to drive public awareness and grassroots mobilisation for ward-level National Identification Number (NIN) enrolment across Nigeria.
Speaking at the inauguration at NOA headquarters in Abuja, Director-General Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, represented by the Director of Media and Communication, Mallam Bala Musa, commended NIMC for its commitment to expanding identity inclusion. He noted that the NIN is crucial for national planning, security, social protection, and financial inclusion.
Issa-Onilu emphasized that the success of the initiative would rely on both effective operations and strategic engagement. He highlighted NOA’s extensive outreach through over 200 radio stations, leading television networks, social media, the AI chatbot CLHEEAN, and its 818 offices nationwide. Sensitisation messages will be inclusive, culturally sensitive, and accessible, particularly for underserved and rural communities.
NIMC’s Team Lead and Director of Operations, Mrs. Uche Chigbo, announced that the enrolment exercise will extend from local government areas to ward levels, aiming for 95 percent nationwide coverage by year-end. The exercise is scheduled to commence on February 16, with licensed partners assisting in reaching the target population. Each ward will undergo a five-day intensive enrolment over six weeks, covering all demographics.
NOA committee members include Mallam Bala Musa, Mrs Adaline Waye, and Mrs Sherifat Adegbesan. NIMC’s committee comprises Mrs Uche Chigbo, James Bura Mamza, Mr Kayode Adegoke, Amen Peter Odia, and Ayodele Babalola.
