NLC Demands N32,000 Minimum Pension for Kwara Retirees

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called on the Kwara State government to urgently implement a N32,000 minimum pension for retirees, aligning with the N70,000 minimum wage approved for the least-paid workers in other states.
State NLC Chairman, Comrade Muritala Saheed Olayinka, made the demand in Ilorin after the State Executive Council meeting of the congress, where he also urged government to effect the 40 percent peculiar allowance for core civil servants. He further pressed for the implementation of the 27 percent Teachers’ Specific Allowance, weigh-in allowance for the Council for Arts and Culture staff, and promotion benefits for eligible workers.
The labour leader asked the government to address pending demands of affiliate unions, including those of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), and Nigeria Civil Service Union (NCSU).
Olayinka congratulated the 16 local government chairmen on their one-year anniversary in office while commending their achievements. He, however, expressed concern over the rising insecurity in Kwara North and South, which has claimed innocent lives, and urged joint efforts by stakeholders to tackle the menace of banditry.
