Nigeria’s Flamingos to Face Ecuador, New Zealand in FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup

Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, have been placed in Group A for the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup following the draw in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Alongside hosts Dominican Republic, they will compete against Ecuador and New Zealand.
While, Nigeria aims to build on their third-place finish in the previous edition in India. They kick off their campaign against New Zealand on October 16, followed by matches against Ecuador on October 19 and the Dominican Republic on October 22.
The draw ceremony, held at the Frey Antón de Montecinos monument, featured 16 nations and marked the final 16-team edition before expanding to 24 teams in 2025. It was hosted by FIFA Director of Tournaments, Jaime Yarza and presented by journalist Avelino Cuadra, the event highlighted the growing participation in women’s football globally.
Also, Dominican athlete, Thais Herrera and Mexican player Tatiana Flores assisted in the draw, underscoring the tournament’s significance in global football development and tickets for the tournament will be available starting August 27.
