Nigeria’s First Lady, Launches ‘Flow with Confidence’ Menstrual Hygiene Programme in Borno

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has launched the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) – Flow with Confidence programme in Borno State as part of efforts to tackle menstrual hygiene challenges and reduce school absenteeism among girls.
The initiative, which kicked off simultaneously in eight states — Borno, Ekiti, Enugu, Gombe, Imo, Kogi, Cross River, and Lagos — will provide 10,000 packs of disposable sanitary pads to each state, including the Federal Capital Territory. Distribution is being coordinated through state first ladies and RHI officials.
In Borno, 10,000 schoolgirls in rural communities are expected to receive a one-year supply of sanitary pads. The products, manufactured locally by Uni Glory Nigeria Limited in Lagos, cost the initiative ₦2.55 billion.
The First Lady emphasized that the pads must not be sold and called for support from local authorities, community leaders, and civil society to ensure accountability in the distribution process.
The Borno State Government pledged full cooperation with the project, noting that it would help restore the dignity of schoolgirls and improve access to education. The state’s first lady, Dr Falmata Babagana Zulum, assured that the sanitary packs would be distributed fairly, with priority given to rural communities.
The Flow with Confidence programme, under the education pillar of the Renewed Hope Agenda, is designed to reach schoolgirls in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, benefiting thousands of vulnerable students nationwide.
