Nigeria’s First Lady Empowers 500 Kogi Women with ₦25m Business Grants

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has flagged off the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI)/Tony Elumelu Foundation Women Economic Empowerment Programme in Kogi State, with 500 women receiving grants to support and grow their small-scale businesses.
At the launch held in Lokoja, beneficiaries each received ₦50,000 to recapitalize and expand their ventures. Represented by Kogi State First Lady, Hajia Sefinat Usman Ododo, Senator Tinubu described the support as a “seed of renewed hope.”
“This is not a loan. It is a grant to help you grow your businesses. When you empower a woman, you empower a household, a community, and indeed, a nation,” she said.
The programme is funded by a ₦1 billion donation from the Tony Elumelu Foundation to the Renewed Hope Initiative and is expected to reach 18,500 women nationwide — 500 per state and the FCT.
Senator Tinubu commended the Tony Elumelu Foundation for its generosity and called on other stakeholders to join in supporting women’s empowerment. She also appreciated Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, and his wife for their collaboration.
The First Lady reaffirmed her commitment to promoting women’s economic independence through initiatives that strengthen families, communities, and the nation.
