Nigeria’s First Lady Commissions Upgraded Federal Medical Centre in Kumo

October 3, 2025

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has commissioned the newly upgraded Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Kumo, Gombe State, alongside Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya and the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Ali Pate.

The First Lady was warmly received in Kumo as residents, youths, trade groups, and students trooped out to witness the historic commissioning of the facility, which has been transformed from a general hospital into a federal medical centre.

In her address, Mrs Tinubu commended the Gombe State Government for its investments in healthcare, describing the upgrade as a major boost to the delivery of quality medical services and a reflection of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. She expressed confidence that the facility would greatly improve access to healthcare and reaffirmed her commitment to championing grassroots development.

She also emphasized the role of traditional and religious institutions in national growth, urging them to partner with the government in sustaining peace and promoting development at the community level.

Earlier, the First Lady paid homage to the Emir of Akko, Alhaji Umar Muhammad Atiku, who conferred on her the traditional title of Sarauniyar Yakin Akko in recognition of her contributions to humanity and the developmental strides of the Tinubu administration.

The Emir described the commissioning of the FMC as a milestone that marks a new chapter in healthcare delivery for the people of Akko and Gombe State.

Also present at the event, Hon. Usman Bello Kumo, Member representing Akko Federal Constituency, lauded President Tinubu for the Federal Government’s interventions in Gombe. He pledged continued support for the administration and assured that the people of the state remain committed to backing the President’s second-term bid in 2027.
