Nigerian Government Issues Travel Alert for the UK Amidst Riots

August 5, 2024

The Nigerian government has issued a travel alert for its citizens planning to visit the United Kingdom, citing an increased risk of violence and disorder due to recent riots.

The alert was announced on Monday in a statement signed by Amb. Eche Abu-Obe, spokesperson for the Minister of Interior. The statement highlighted the ongoing unrest in the UK and advised Nigerian travelers to exercise heightened caution.

“There is an increased risk of violence and disorder occasioned by the recent riots in the UK,” the statement read.

Travelers are urged to take several precautionary measures, including: Avoiding Political Processions and Protests, and Staying Away from Crowded Areas.

The government’s advisory aims to ensure the safety of Nigerian citizens abroad and to provide guidance amid the current volatile situation in the UK.
