Nigerian Government Apologizes for Lagos Airport Blackout

February 2, 2026

The Nigerian government, through the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), apologized to passengers and stakeholders after a power outage at Terminal 1 of Murtala Muhammed International Airport over the weekend.

FAAN explained that the disruption was caused by a fault in the terminal’s changeover circuit during a power transition. Technical teams were immediately deployed to transfer electricity to the secondary grid, and backup measures were activated to restore services quickly.

The agency acknowledged the inconvenience caused and expressed regret for the disruption.
