Nigerian Army Arrests 47 Suspected Rail Track Vandals in Kaduna
The 1st Division Nigerian Army, Kaduna, has announced the arrest of 47 individuals suspected of vandalizing rail tracks. According to Lt. Col. Musa Yahaya, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, the suspects were apprehended during a routine patrol along Kakau Daji-Anguwan Ayaba on June 26.
Yahaya said, “The arrest was made by the troops while on routine patrol along Kakau Daji-Anguwan Ayaba; they intercepted and arrested 47 suspected rail track vandals on June 26.”
He revealed that the troops intercepted the suspects as they were loading vandalized rail tracks onto two trucks and upon interrogation, the suspects disclosed they were hired by a fugitive named Alhaji Babawo to dismantle and transport the tracks to a nearby bush.
Meanwhile, the suspects were subsequently profiled at the 312 Artillery Regiment, Kaduna, under the supervision of Lt. Col. IY Rena, Acting Commander of 1 Division Provost Group. Rena emphasized ongoing efforts to apprehend the gang leader and recover additional stolen materials concealed in nearby bushes.
Following the arrest, the suspects were handed over to authorities from the Nigerian Railway Corporation, Kaduna Station, represented by Divisional Crime Officer ASP Inuwa Dahiru. Dahiru praised the army for their proactive measures and collaboration with other security agencies in addressing prevalent security challenges in the state.
