Niger State Government Shuts Down Illegal Mining Sites

February 25, 2026

Abuja, 25 February 2026 – The Niger State Government has ordered the immediate closure of illegal and non-compliant mining sites in Gada Daya and Gada Eregi along Bida Road.

The directive follows a joint inspection by the Niger State Ministry of Mineral Resources and the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals Development. Commissioner for Mineral Resources, Mohammed Qasim Danjuma, stated that operators without valid federal licences or state documentation will no longer be allowed to operate.

All mining operators are required to obtain proper licences from the Federal Ministry and complete mandatory registration with the state ministry. The inspection team included senior officials, federal mines officers, representatives of Zuma Development Company, and security personnel.

Danjuma emphasized: “No operator should commence or continue mining activities without proper licensing and documentation.”

The move is part of Niger State’s broader effort to regulate mining activities and ensure compliance with federal and state laws.
