National Association of Resident Doctors Calls on State Governors to Enforce Medical Residency Training Act
The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has urged state governors to fully implement the Chief Medical Residency Training Act (MRTA) to regulate residency programs across Nigeria’s hospitals.
This call came during a press conference following the Association’s 44th Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference held in Abeokuta, Ogun State as the association highlighted the urgent need for funding in residency training, particularly in teaching hospitals.
Dr. Tope Osundara, the National President of National Association of Resident Doctors, stressed that the absence of a legal framework for residency programs leaves them vulnerable to arbitrary suspensions by Medical Directors.
Furthermore, He argued that the Medical Residency Training Act (MRTA) serves as a necessary policy to standardize and regulate residency programs, thereby preventing the presence of inadequately trained personnel, which could jeopardize patient care.
