*‘My Defence Minister Will Be a Drone,’ Sowore Declares*
African Action Congress presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has said he would appoint a drone as Nigeria’s minister of defence if elected president.
Speaking on Arise TV on Thursday, Sowore said Nigeria’s security crisis requires urgent investment in technology and “honest leaders and supervisors and officers” rather than generals “staying in Abuja fighting over land.”
He outlined a vision of a command-and-control security architecture using drones and artificial intelligence to track and “liquidate” terrorists from a central control centre. When asked if artificial intelligence itself could serve as defence minister, he agreed, saying “that drone will fly everywhere.”
Sowore also called for a police force focused on internal security rather than escorting VIPs or arresting people for social media comments. He stressed that technology alone would not solve insecurity, arguing that lasting peace requires creating jobs and education opportunities so young people are not “willing to take up arms.”
The activist first proposed the drone-minister idea in a Channels TV interview in January 2026.
