“Motorcycle Riders Launch Assault on Lagos Police Station, Exchange Fire with Officers”
A group of armed okada riders stormed the Ipaja Police Station in Lagos State on Monday morning, initiating a fierce gun battle with the officers on duty.
The invasion sent shockwaves through the area, causing panic among residents as the sound of gunfire reverberated through the neighborhood. Prompt reinforcements were deployed to the scene to assist the outnumbered police personnel.
Confirming the incident, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, disclosed that the attack occurred as officers were enforcing the existing ban on motorcycles in Lagos State.
“The attackers, numbering in the hundreds and armed with dangerous weapons, launched a coordinated assault on the police station, firing indiscriminately at the officers and attempting to overrun the facility,” stated Hundeyin.
Despite the onslaught, the officers at Ipaja Police Division valiantly defended their post, holding their ground until reinforcements arrived from the Area Command and the Rapid Response Squad (RRS).
In the ensuing confrontation, two of the attackers were fatally wounded, and several others were arrested. Additionally, law enforcement officers successfully impounded over two hundred motorcycles used by the assailants, along with the recovery of a locally made firearm.
Hundeyin emphasized the resolve of the Lagos State Police Command to uphold law and order, asserting that attacks on police facilities will not deter them from carrying out their mandate.
“The Lagos State Police Command will not be cowed into abdicating its responsibilities of enforcement of all duly passed laws and maintenance of law and order within the society,” declared Hundeyin in a statement.
