Minister of Women Affairs Calls for Collective Action to Protect the Girl-Child

The Minister of Women Affairs, Dr. Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, has urged Nigerians to work together to protect the girl-child from harm and abuse, enabling her to reach her full potential.
Speaking during her visit to the Office of the National Youth Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Youth House in Abuja, the minister emphasised that every girl deserves the opportunity to dream, grow, and lead. The visit was part of activities marking the 2025 International Day of the Girl-Child.
Sulaiman-Ibrahim called for a multi-sectoral approach to tackling issues related to rape, gender-based violence, and other threats to the safety and well-being of girls and women. She said collective responsibility was essential to creating a society where girls are protected, empowered, and given equal opportunities.
The minister commended the APC Youth Wing for promoting youth and women’s inclusion within the party, urging young Nigerians to champion mentorship and progressive leadership.
The event, organised by the APC Youth Wing, brought together young progressives, women’s leaders, and party members to highlight the importance of educating, empowering, and investing in the Nigerian girl-child.
APC National Youth Leader, Dr. Dayo Israel, praised the minister for her commitment to advancing the welfare of women and girls. He reaffirmed the Youth Wing’s dedication to promoting gender inclusion and social development, noting that empowering the girl-child equates to empowering future generations.
A key highlight of the event was the unveiling of the Progressive Young Ladies Network (PYLN) — a youth-led platform designed to promote mentorship, leadership training, and active participation of young women within and beyond the APC.
The celebration featured an interactive session, a fireside chat where the minister shared insights from her leadership journey, and the presentation of souvenirs and group photographs.
Sulaiman-Ibrahim reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to fostering initiatives that ensure girls across Nigeria are safe, educated, and equipped to contribute meaningfully to national development.
