Minister of State for Defence Condemns Ambush on Soldiers in Abia State
Dr. Bello Matawalle, the Minister of State for Defence, has strongly denounced the “barbaric and abominable” killing of five soldiers who were on lawful duty at Obikabia Junction in Obingwa local government area of Abia State.
The soldiers fell victim to an ambush by suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and their armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), on Thursday.
In a statement issued by the Director of the Ministry of Defence, Henshaw Ogubike, Matawalle described the attack as “totally reprehensible and disheartening.” He emphasized that the perpetrators of this heinous act must face the full wrath of the law. “The brutal assassination of the soldiers in Aba was without any provocation while on a lawful duty, protecting innocent citizens against the threat of non-state actors”.

Expressing condolences to the families of the deceased personnel and the Nigerian military, Matawalle urged the troops not to be discouraged by the attack.
