Mining Federation Urges Prosecution After Tragic Incidents in Niger State
The Niger State Chapter of the Federation of Nigeria Mining Host Communities has demanded an investigation and the prosecution of owners of collapsed mining sites where workers were recently trapped in the state.
In a statement signed by Chairman Habibu Wushishi and Secretary Mohammed, following their meeting in Minna, the Federation expressed grave concerns over recent incidents at mining pits.
These incidents occurred in Galkogo and Shiroro local government areas, where over 30 individuals were trapped earlier this month, and in the Adunni area of Paikoro local government area, resulting in the tragic deaths of three individuals.
Additionally, the Federation stressed the importance of holding accountable companies responsible for recent mining incidents. They called for prosecution of those found guilty of exploiting community members as cheap labor without proper safety protocols.
Furthermore, the Federation urged these companies to compensate victims, highlighting the necessity to discourage similar negligent practices among companies in Niger State and nationwide.
