Military Reportedly Offers Security Support to Deposed Emir in Kano Following Arrest Directive
The political upheaval in Kano State escalated dramatically on Saturday as Governor Abba Yusuf issued a directive for the immediate arrest of the deposed Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero.
In a statement released by the Director General of Media and Publicity, Government House, Kano, Sanusi Tofa, the governor cited Bayero’s alleged role in inciting unrest within the state as the reason behind the order.
The statement, titled ‘Gov. Yusuf Orders Arrest of Deposed Emir of Kano Aminu Ado Bayero,’ revealed that Bayero was apprehended for his involvement in a clandestine attempt to regain entry into the palace, just two days after being dethroned by the governor.
According to the statement, the newly appointed Emir, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, was escorted to the palace in the company of the governor, deputy governor, Speaker of the state House of Assembly, and other high-ranking government officials around 1 am on Saturday, May 25, 2024.
“As the Chief Security Officer of the state, His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has directed the Commissioner of Police to arrest the deposed Emir with immediate effect for disturbing public peace and attempting to destroy the relative peace the state enjoys,” the statement asserted.
Meanwhile, a significant deployment of military personnel has been observed at the Nasarawa Emir’s Rest House in Kano State, where the deposed Emir Aminu Ado Bayero was reportedly lodged upon his return to the state.
According to reports, the presence of the military is seen as a reinforcement of security measures following the arrest directive issued by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf against the deposed Emir.
