Lagos, Ondo Governments Disburse Over N3.4bn to Retirees

The Lagos State Government has paid ₦1.004 billion in retirement benefits to 465 retirees who served before the commencement of the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) in 2007.
Director-General of the Lagos State Pension Commission (LASPEC), Babalola Obilana, disclosed this during the 111th batch retirement bond presentation ceremony, reaffirming Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to the welfare of serving and retired workers.
Obilana noted that despite global and local economic challenges, Lagos remains one of the few states that consistently fulfils its pension obligations. He added that the Commission has entrenched transparency and efficiency in pension administration through continuous reforms.
He praised the retirees for their years of dedicated service, describing them as “pillars of the state’s progress.”
The Head of Service, Bode Agoro, commended the governor for prioritising workers’ welfare and urged beneficiaries to use their entitlements wisely.
Similarly, the Ondo State Government has commenced bulk payment of ₦2.396 billion in gratuity arrears to 2016 and 2017 retirees. Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who announced the exercise at the Cocoa Conference Hall in Akure, pledged to clear the backlog inherited by his administration.
Permanent Secretary of the Ondo State Pension Transitional Department, Bunmi Alade, said the move marked the first time in the state’s history that two full years of gratuity arrears were cleared simultaneously.
