Lagos Government to Close Marine Bridge for 15 Days for Maintenance

The Lagos State Government has announced a 15-day closure of the Marine Bridge in Ijora, Apapa Local Government Area, to facilitate urgent maintenance work being carried out by the Federal Ministry of Works.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the closure will begin on Saturday, October 11, and end on Saturday, October 25, 2025.
Osiyemi explained that the rehabilitation will be executed in two phases to minimize traffic disruption and ensure smooth vehicular movement along designated alternative routes.
Phase I, scheduled for October 11–18, will affect the section from the foot of the Marine Bridge at Lawani Oguntayo Road (by UBA, inbound Apapa/Costain). During this period, motorists from Ijora Olopa heading to Apapa will be diverted through the Ijora Causeway Access Ramp near Omni Retail Company, connecting to Ijora 7up, before turning left to Lilypond Access Ramp to continue their journey.
Phase II, which will run from October 19–25, will cover the stretch between Ijora Badia and Lilypond Access Ramp (inbound Apapa). In this phase, vehicles from Ijora Olopa heading towards Apapa and Costain will be diverted about 50 metres before the construction zone into a contraflow lane with Costain-bound traffic for approximately 500 metres before rejoining the main carriageway.
Meanwhile, vehicles travelling from Apapa towards Costain, Lagos Island, or Ijora Olopa will still enjoy through traffic but will share a 500-metre contraflow section around the construction area.
Osiyemi appealed to motorists and residents to cooperate with traffic officers and adhere to road signs, stressing that the temporary closure is vital to replace the bridge’s bearings, which are critical to its structural integrity and long-term safety.
He assured that adequate personnel from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and other agencies will be deployed to manage the diversion routes and ease traffic flow.
The commissioner emphasized that the project underscores ongoing collaboration between the Lagos State and Federal Governments to enhance infrastructure, ensure road safety, and extend the lifespan of critical transport assets like the Marine Bridge.
