Kwara South Development Forum Raises Alarm Over Insecurity
The Kwara South Development Forum has expressed deep concern over escalating violence in Kwara South, highlighting persistent killings, kidnappings, and deserted communities. In a statement signed by acting Speaker Obashola Ayomide Ridwan, the group reported that traditional rulers and residents have become frequent targets of terrorists, citing high-profile killings and abductions, including the Oniwo of Afin and his son earlier this year.
The forum condemned attacks on places of worship and the displacement of residents from over 20 communities, noting that families have been forced to sell property to pay ransom while many remain in captivity. It further criticized the inadequate response of security agencies and losses suffered by local vigilantes defending their communities, urging both state and federal governments to deploy more operatives and equip local defense groups with the necessary tools.
The group warned that without urgent intervention, continued violence could exacerbate the humanitarian crisis in the region.
