Kwara Sets Up Committee on Minimum Wage Adjustment
The Kwara State Government has established a 21-member tripartite committee to address the consequential adjustment for various categories of workers following the new national minimum wage adjustment.
Governor AbdulRaman AbdulRazaq approved the formation of the committee, as confirmed in a statement released by the Government House on Thursday.
With the national minimum wage now set at N70,000, the need for adjustments for senior workers in the state has become imperative.
The statement, signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, outlined the composition and responsibilities of the committee, emphasizing the inclusive representation of the state government, labour centers, and the organized private sector.
“The tripartite committee is chaired by the Head of Service and co-chaired by the Commissioner for Finance, while the Director (Establishment and Pension) will serve as the Secretary,“ the statement detailed.
Additional members include:
Commissioners for Budget and Planning, Works and Transport, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Communications
Senior Adviser and Counsellor to the Governor
Permanent Secretaries (Finance, Service Welfare, Justice)
Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Labour Matters
Labour representation on the committee comprises:
Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress
Chairman of the Trade Union Congress
Chairman of the Joint Negotiation Council
Chairman of COHESU
Secretary of the JNC
The private sector is represented by:
Kwara Chamber of Commerce
Manufacturers Association of Nigeria
Nigerian Association of Small and Medium Enterprises
The committee’s mandate is to formulate and recommend an equitable adjustment framework for the implementation of the new minimum wage across various worker categories within Kwara State.
