Kwara PDP Condemns State of Kwara Stadium, Alleges Corruption and Neglect
The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has raised serious concerns over the deteriorating state of the Kwara State Stadium Complex, citing it as a national embarrassment and a testament to the neglect and financial mismanagement under Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq’s administration.
The PDP expressed dismay over the recent declaration of the stadium as “unfit for use” by the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) management, attributing the stadium’s decline to unchecked corruption and misuse under the current administration.
They accused the government of diverting funds meant for stadium maintenance towards political ends, particularly highlighting the use of the Main Bowl for All Progressives Congress (APC) rallies.
In a statement signed by the State Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Olusegun Olusola Adewara, the party lamented the withdrawal of services by the Kwara Football Association (KFA) from the stadium in protest against alleged financial misconduct.
They referenced a Sahara Reporters investigation from 2022 that alleged the misappropriation of N72 million meant for stadium renovations, demanding accountability from Governor Abdulrazaq.
“The deteriorating condition of the Kwara State Stadium, once a pride of our state, reflects Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq’s determination to dismantle the legacies of past administrations, especially those associated with the Saraki era,” the statement read.
The PDP called for a thorough investigation into the corruption allegations raised by the Kwara Football Association and urged the state government to prioritize the restoration of the stadium to its former glory.
They emphasized the need for transparency in handling public funds and called on Governor Abdulrazaq to apologize to the people of Kwara for the stadium’s current state.
The statement concluded with a challenge to the governor to provide a detailed account of all expenditures related to the stadium and ensure accountability for those responsible for its current dilapidation.
