Kwara PDP Completes Payment for Nomination Forms Ahead of Council Polls
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has finalized payments for nomination forms required for its chairmanship and councilorship candidates ahead of the upcoming local council elections scheduled for September 21.
In a statement released on Thursday in Ilorin by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Olusola Adewara, the PDP confirmed that it has fulfilled all financial obligations outlined by the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWASIEC).
The party has disbursed approximately N25 million for the nomination forms, covering 16 local government area chairmanship candidates and 193 councilorship candidates.
According to the statement, the PDP remitted N24.9 million to the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KWIRS) and has received official receipts for the payments. Subsequently, party representatives have proceeded to the KWASIEC office to obtain the requisite forms on behalf of all candidates.
KWASIEC had earlier announced the sale of nomination forms at N350,000 for chairmanship positions and N100,000 for councilorship positions, revised from initial expectations of N200,000 and N50,000 respectively.
In addition to the nomination fees, each chairmanship candidate must pay an additional N350,000 for tax clearance, while councilorship candidates are required to pay N168,000 each.
The PDP acknowledged the recent court ruling questioning the legality of KWASIEC’s fee structure for nomination forms but affirmed its commitment to participating in the local government elections.
The party emphasized its mission to alleviate hardship and improve governance in Kwara State.
The completion of payment for nomination forms marks a significant step forward for the PDP as it prepares to contest local government seats across Kwara State, setting the stage for a competitive electoral process in the upcoming polls.
