Kwara NUJ Urges Unity Against Insecurity at Nigeria’s 65th Independence

Ilorin, October 1, 2025 – As Nigeria marks its 65th Independence Anniversary, the Kwara State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has called for collective action to tackle insecurity and promote national stability.
In a joint statement by its Chairman, Abdullateef ‘Lanre Ahmed, and Secretary, Mahmood Olayinka Alaya, the Union urged political leaders, traditional rulers, religious figures, and security agencies to work more closely in combating banditry, terrorism, and kidnapping. It commended the sacrifices of security forces and called on the federal government to provide them with modern weapons and strengthen border security. On the economy, the NUJ advised the government to review policies worsening hardship and avoid overburdening citizens with new taxes. The Union also praised Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s infrastructural strides in Kwara and pledged continued partnership for progress. As the country reflects on 65 years of nationhood, the NUJ urged Nigerians to embrace unity, patriotism, and resilience for a more secure and prosperous future.
