Kwara Governor Plans State-of-the-Art Civil Service Hospital to Match Private Healthcare Standards

June 17, 2024

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State has unveiled ambitious plans to establish a state-of-the-art civil service hospital aimed at rivaling private healthcare standards.

Speaking at a recent council meeting, Governor AbdulRazaq emphasized the need for superior healthcare facilities equipped with modern technologies.

“We are committed to building a world-class hospital that will offer services on par with well-run private facilities,” Governor AbdulRazaq declared. “Our goal is to eliminate the perception of inadequate public healthcare and provide a facility that distinguishes itself through exceptional care and advanced amenities.”

The proposed hospital will cater to a broad area spanning from GRA to Amoyo, addressing the healthcare needs of a growing population in the capital city.

Governor AbdulRazaq highlighted the importance of enhancing secondary healthcare services to alleviate pressure on primary healthcare facilities.

“While our primary healthcare initiatives have been robust, the demand for secondary and tertiary care persists as our population ages,” he explained. “We aim to reduce medical tourism by ensuring Kwara becomes a destination for high-quality healthcare services.”

The Governor expressed optimism about collaborations that enhance healthcare delivery in the state, including partnerships with institutions like Al-Hikmah University.

The university has been granted approval to train its medical students at Sobi Specialist Hospital, a public facility that has seen significant investment under the AbdulRazaq administration.

“The partnership with Al-Hikmah University underscores our commitment to strengthening medical education and healthcare infrastructure,” Governor AbdulRazaq stated. “This initiative aligns with our vision to develop a robust healthcare ecosystem capable of meeting the diverse needs of our population.”

The forthcoming Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the government and Al-Hikmah University is expected to formalize the terms of collaboration, facilitating educational opportunities and bolstering healthcare services in Kwara State.

As preparations accelerate for the university’s newly approved medical programme, Governor AbdulRazaq expressed confidence that these efforts will elevate Kwara’s healthcare sector to new heights, positioning the state as a hub for comprehensive and accessible medical care.
