Kwara Governor Meets Security Chiefs After Deadly Kaiama Attack
Ilorin, Kwara State — Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on Monday night convened an emergency meeting of the Kwara State Security Council following a deadly terrorist attack in Kaiama Local Government Area that reportedly claimed about 175 lives.
The high-level meeting, held at the Ahmadu Bello House in Ilorin, brought together heads of major security agencies in the state to assess the security situation and strengthen coordinated responses to emerging threats.
Speaking after the meeting, Governor AbdulRazaq said the engagement was part of a multi-layered response to the attack, which has heightened security concerns across parts of the North-Central state.
“I received briefings from all security commanders in the state, and we discussed strategies to neutralise all threats to our citizens and secure lives and property,” the governor said.
He expressed confidence that the resolutions reached during the meeting would lead to improved security and the restoration of peace in affected communities.
Security agencies have since intensified operations in Kaiama and surrounding areas, with increased deployment of military and police personnel to forest corridors believed to be used by armed groups. Authorities say efforts are being focused on intelligence sharing, inter-agency collaboration, and rapid response mechanisms to prevent further attacks in vulnerable rural communities.
Meanwhile, Governors AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara, Usman Ododo of Kogi, and Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti had earlier visited victims of a related attack in Woro community, who are currently receiving treatment at the General Hospital in Ilorin.
Governor Oyebanji described the attack as unfortunate and expressed solidarity with the Kwara State Government and affected residents. He also commended the Federal Government and security agencies for their swift response.
The three governors pledged continued collaboration to address cross-border criminal activities threatening communities in the region.
