Kwara Government Partners Security Agencies to Combat Human Trafficking, Illegal Migration
The Kwara State Government has commenced collaboration with security agencies and relevant stakeholders to tackle human trafficking, illegal migration, and insecurity as part of activities marking the 2026 World Day Against Human Trafficking.
The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Senior Ibrahim Sulyman, said the state government would work with the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and other agencies to address irregular migration and strengthen security across the state.
Represented by the Director of the Gender-Based Violence Response Unit of the Ministry of Justice, Funke Balogun, the Commissioner said the July 30 celebration themed “Trapped Behind the Scam” would provide an opportunity to intensify efforts against human trafficking.
He expressed concern over the influx of unprofiled migrants into the state, describing it as a security challenge linked to crimes such as terrorism, kidnapping and banditry. He stressed the need for proper data tracking and profiling of migrants to enhance security.
The State Coordinator of the Network Against Child Trafficking, Abuse and Labour (NACTAL), Olufemi Oyedeji, called for stronger action against human trafficking, noting that women and girls remain among the most affected groups.
The Nigeria Immigration Service and the NSCDC pledged their support to the state task force, with both agencies promising stronger collaboration, especially at borders, to prevent trafficking and protect vulnerable residents.
The stakeholders also called for increased public awareness campaigns in communities, markets and religious centres to expose trafficking methods and prevent exploitation.
