Kwara Government Inspects Moro Bridge Bypass, Assures Motorists of Safer Movement
The Kwara State Government has inspected the newly completed bypass to the Moro Bridge, assuring motorists that the temporary route was constructed to ease transportation challenges following the collapse of the Bailey Bridge.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works, Elder Anthony Gana Abu, during the inspection, said the state government understands the importance of road infrastructure to businesses, farmers, commuters and communities. He explained that the bypass would reduce hardship while work continues on the new Moro Bridge and the Ilorin-Igbeti Federal Highway.
Elder Abu appealed to motorists to use the temporary route responsibly, advising heavy-duty truck operators to avoid the bypass because it was not designed to carry articulated vehicles.
The Director of Civil Engineering in the ministry, Engr. Moshood Akanbi, called for cooperation between the ministry and transport unions to ensure proper use and maintenance of the facility.
Transport unions, including the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), commended the state government for providing an alternative route and pledged support in ensuring compliance with the usage guidelines.
They also appealed for the speedy completion of the ongoing Moro Bridge and Ilorin-Igbeti Federal Highway projects.
