Kwara Government Approves N2.9bn Support for Wet Season Farming
In a bid to bolster food security and support farmers ahead of the 2024 wet season, the Kwara State government has approved agricultural interventions totaling N2.9 billion.
These initiatives, sanctioned during a recent council meeting, aim to benefit registered farmers and enhance agricultural productivity across the state. The approved funds include N1.4 billion allocated for the distribution of fertilizers and N567 million for high-quality seeds and agrochemical inputs.
Additionally, the council greenlit projects for the clearing of 715 hectares of farmlands at the special agroprocessing zone and another 714 hectares at the Malete Integrated Youth Farm Training Centre.
Mrs. Oloruntoyosi Thomas, Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, highlighted the critical importance of these interventions in bolstering agricultural output and promoting economic growth in Kwara State.
“These investments in seeds, fertilizers, and agrochemicals are essential to improving crop yields, diversifying crops, and enhancing the overall agricultural landscape of Kwara,” Commissioner Thomas stated. “Timely access to these inputs is crucial for the success of the upcoming wet season farming, as it will help mitigate crop losses, ensure higher yields, and ultimately strengthen food security across the state.”
The initiatives underscore the government’s commitment to supporting farmers and ensuring sustainable agricultural practices that contribute to the state’s economic development.
With these measures in place, Kwara State aims to foster a robust agricultural sector capable of meeting local food demands and enhancing the livelihoods of its farming communities.
