Kwara Doctors Begin Seven-Day Warning Strike Over Welfare, Salary Deductions
Doctors employed by the Kwara State Government have commenced a seven-day warning strike over unresolved welfare concerns and salary deductions for the Kwara Health Insurance Scheme, also known as KwaraCare. The strike involves members of the Kwara Doctors Forum, including the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria, the National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners, and the Association of Resident Doctors at KWASUTH. Speaking in Ilorin, MDCAN Chairman, Dr Adeola Olasinde, said the decision followed the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum issued to the state government on October 14.
The doctors are demanding a reversal of the two per cent salary deduction for KwaraCare, implementation of the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure, and payment of outstanding 2025 and 2026 accoutrement allowances. They are also seeking the recruitment of house officers, medical officers, resident doctors and consultants across public healthcare facilities. The strike follows the failure to resolve the demands within the period given to the state government.
