Kwara Communities deliberate Civilian Task Force as Insecurity Worsens in Edu, Patigi

October 3, 2025

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on Thursday night held an emergency meeting with community leaders and stakeholders from Edu and Patigi Local Government Areas to address the rising cases of kidnapping and violent attacks in the region.

The meeting, which reviewed recent security incidents, explored the possibility of establishing a civilian task force to complement the efforts of security agencies. According to discussions, the proposed task force would be drawn from local communities, trained, supported, and allied with security forces to strengthen defence against unique security threats in the two LGAs.

Governor AbdulRazaq said the details of the initiative would be fine-tuned through consultations with relevant stakeholders to ensure success and sustainability.

The forum also deliberated on support for victims of attacks, with plans for direct interventions to assist affected families. The Governor disclosed that he would personally visit the communities as part of efforts to identify with their grief and losses.

Other issues on the agenda included the development of the College of Education (Technical), Lafiagi, with modalities for boosting funding and infrastructure upgrades, as well as strategies for improving electricity supply across the axis.

The meeting came shortly after the Governor visited Oke Ode in Ifelodun LGA, where he commiserated with families of forest guards, local hunters, and community leaders killed in the September 28 attack. He assured that their sacrifice would not be in vain and vowed that those behind the killings would face justice.

“As we intensify collaboration with the Federal Government and security forces, securing lives and property remains a collective responsibility,” AbdulRazaq stressed, urging all Kwarans to join hands in defending their right to life and safety.
