Kwara Commission Warns Political Parties on Guidelines Ahead of Council Polls
The Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWASIEC) has introduced new policies for the upcoming council polls scheduled for September 21.
The Commission, led by Chairman Muhammed Baba Okanla, has issued a stern warning to political parties regarding the involvement of KWASIEC in their primary election processes.
In a statement released by the Commission, Okanla emphasized that any political party that fails to involve KWASIEC in their primary elections will have their results invalidated. This decision underscores the Commission’s commitment to ensuring the integrity and transparency of the electoral process.
“The involvement of the state electoral commission is crucial for maintaining public trust and upholding democratic principles,” the statement read.
The Commission outlined specific requirements for political parties:
All political parties must notify KWASIEC of their primary election dates, procedures, and any changes to the election process.
KWASIEC will supervise and monitor all primary elections to ensure fairness and transparency. This includes the presence of official observers at voting sites and the implementation of standardized election procedures.
Any political party failing to comply with these requirements will see their primary election results deemed invalid.
The state electoral body made it clear that it will not recognize or accept any primary results from parties that do not adhere to these policies. The move is intended to enhance the credibility of the electoral process and ensure that elections are conducted in a fair and transparent manner.
